Education for all : the hazard within fragile states

2012

Currently, over a third of children not in school live in countries considered being as fragile. These countries, which are mainly located in sub-Saharan Africa, will not reach the objectives of Education For All for 2015. This thesis covers approaches across comparative education, political science and sociology of organizations. It explores empirically the condi¬tions of achievement of EFA within the contexts of fragility. Despite its ambiguities, the notion of fragile states was adopted in 2005 as an operational concept by most of aid agencies. Definitions of fragile state converge on a set of specific criteria (dysfunctional institutions, chronic socio-political instability, limited acc…

La gratuité des musées et des monuments : qu’en pensent les publics en France ?

2015

The question of free admission has generated numerous debates, highlighting various viewpoints of professionals involved in Culture, effects on the measured volumes of attendance and on the management of museums and monuments. One question has been left aside: that of the reception of free admissionmeasures by the destined audiences. The analysis of the representations of these measures, which are found to be multiple, contradictory and not very congruent with the ideals put forth by the institutions themselves, shows the subtlety of the complex interactions between the tariff amount, the comprehension of a cultural policy, impact on the representations of museums and monuments and frequent…

Telemedicine for the acute management of stroke in Burgundy, France: an evaluation of effectiveness and safety

2016

Background In the context of the development of telemedicine in France to address low thrombolysis rates and limited stroke infrastructures, a star-shaped telestroke network was implemented in Burgundy (1.6 million inhabitants). We evaluated the safety and effectiveness of this network for thrombolysis in acute ischemic stroke patients. Methods One hundred and thirty-two consecutive patients who received intravenous thrombolysis during a telemedicine procedure (2012–2014) and 222 consecutive patients who were treated at the stroke center of Dijon University Hospital, France (2011–2012) were included. Main outcomes were the modified Rankin scale (mRS) score and case fatality at 3 months. Com…

Associations of black carbon with lung function and airway inflammation in schoolchildren

2019

Background: Few studies have investigated the 24-hour respiratory health effects of personal black carbon (BC) and ultrafine particles (UFP) exposure in schoolchildren. The objective of this study was to investigate these associations with the lung function in children 10-years old with and without persistent respiratory symptoms. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study in 305 children (147 and 158 with and without persistent respiratory symptoms, respectively) from three European birth-cohorts: PARIS (France) and INMA Sabadell and Valencia (Spain). Personal 24-hour measurements of exposure concentrations to BC and UFP were performed by portable devices, before lung function testing. …

Evaluation du paysage et politiques publiques: application à l'agglomération de Montbéliard et à la commune de Morez (Franche-Comté)

2011

"If landscape is now part of public action at all scale levels, the effects of this action should be revealed in the landscape itself. We have to look further". This main goal of the "public policies and landscape" research program, initiated in 1998 by the French ministry of environment, encourages the scientific community to Invest both the landscape assessment and public policies research fields. This research aims at bringing a new contribution to this subject, taking into account recent advances and remaining questions. An assessment tool based on standardized and comparable landscape indices is proposed. This approach is based on measures performed on the visible part of the landscape…

Impairment of learning and memory performances induced by BPA Evidences from the literature of a MoA mediated through an ED

2018

International audience; Many rodent studies and a few non-human primate data report impairments of spatial and non-spatial memory induced by exposure to bisphenol A (BPA), which are associated with neural modifications, particularly in processes involved in synaptic plasticity. BPA-induced alterations involve disruption of the estrogenic pathway as established by reversal of BPA-induced effects with estrogenic receptor antagonist or by interference of BPA with administered estradiol in ovariectomized animals. Sex differences in hormonal impregnation during critical periods of development and their influence on maturation of learning and memory processes may explain the sexual dimorphism obs…

Psychosocial factors burden in workers with acute cerebro- or cardiovascular events: A multidisciplinary prospective pilot study

2018

Introduction Psychosocial stress at work has been proposed as a risk factor for cerebro- and cardiovascular event (CVE) such as stroke or acute myocardial infarction (MI). However, data on psychosocial factors (PSF) profile in patients with CVE are scarce. In a multidisciplinary approach, we aimed to characterize PSF burden in patients with acute stroke or MI. Patients In a prospective pilot study, 45 patients aged  Results Among the 44 patients included, 77% had acute MI and 23% stroke. Mean age was 50 years, 77% were male, 43% were current smokers, 39% had hypertension, 41% hypercholesterolemia and 36% obesity. Education level was at 4,65 (secondary education), and most (41%) had low soci…
